Ayrton said in 1993 "If you take away Eau Rouge, you take away the reason why I do this", which is why Paul Oz selected this particular pose. Senna as he would've been positioned when driving this most iconic section of track – left – right – up hill, accelerating hard, back end trying to kick out.
We now have a limited edition range of maquettes of this iconic statue. The full size statue was unveiled at the Autosport International show in January and is endorsed by the Instituto Ayrton Senna and marks almost 25 years since Senna's last race. Each maquette is 2kg of solid resin, hand painted bronze to replicate the life-size bronze statue which is now on display at McLaren MTC in Woking. Measuring 35cm long, the maquette sits on an Integral black plinth which includes a numbered plaque.

An incredibly detailed project which has taken over 12 months to complete, Paul Oz has immortalised a life-size Ayrton Senna; cast in bronze. Paul and his design team have used the latest technology and best in craftsmanship to create this beautiful piece. 160kg of raw bronze, cast by the most prestigious foundry in the world.
Hundreds of 2D images were knitted together to create the 3D modelling, which was refined to pull out the logo's, as well as the ubiquitous helmet stripes to make sure that it still screamed SENNA even in a monotone bronze. The eventual 3D printed model was then resurfaced in clay, and texture detail added. From there it was divided into castable chunks and formed in wax, complete with internal piping to pour the molten bronze in and allow the melted wax out.
Paul Oz says of the statue's pose:
"It’s a position alien to most and even many F1 fans don’t appreciate how extreme it is, even back in the 90’s, although more so now. If there's one thing I am happiest about with this statue is the dynamic and balance of the position."
