Jordan EJ12 Chassis no 1
Jordan’s EJ12 was the last car powered by Honda and brought the team’s most successful period, alongside the Japanese marque, to a close.
Chassis no 1 is hereby offered to provide the new owner with a prodigious provenance; the first EJ12 to break cover and lap the home of British motor racing, Silverstone, at the hands of Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato – his first laps as a Formula One race driver before he became one of only three Japanese drivers in history to score an F1 podium.
This fully-operational, modern classic was the car first unveiled to launch the 2002 season – having been flown to Brussels and launched to the world’s press in the DHL Hanger.
YOUR PIECE OF F1 RACING HISTORY
2002 saw Jordan enjoy their best Constructors’ Championship before the sale of Eddie Jordan’s race-winning team to Alexander Shnaider’s Midland Group in 2005 – securing five points finishes in the car driven by Sato and multiple F1 race winner Giancarlo Fisichella and designed by Eghbal Hamidy and the revered Gary Anderson.
READY TO RACE AGAIN
The car features the original no 1 chassis, livery, and team wear and is augmented by the potent Judd KV8 Formula 3000 engine -- as Honda does not release its engines into private ownership – and a 5-speed pneumatic paddle-shift gearbox.
It has since been driven tactfully while in private ownership and ameliorated by the latest Geartronics GCU, dazzling spectators at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and, most recently, at Brands Hatch during August 2018.
Photos and documentation provided by the owner from the former Director of Jordan F1, Ian Phillips offer unequivocal evidence of the car’s originality, heritage, importance to the history of the much-loved Jordan F1 Team, and Japanese racing folklore – chassis no 4 is kept in Honda’s official museum in Japan and is worth £0.5 million thanks to Sato’s aforementioned Indy 500 triumph.
